Not Just Another Mothers' Group: Why the Village Mothers' Group Is Different
If you've just had a baby, chances are someone has already mentioned "mothers groups" to you — maybe your child and family health nurse, maybe a friend, maybe Google at 2am. And if you're on the Central Coast searching for a mothers group near me, you've probably noticed there are a few different options out there.
So let's be upfront: the Village Mothers' Group, now running at both our Ettalong Beach and Erina locations, is not the standard council-run mothers group you might be randomly placed into. Here's what makes it different — and why it might be exactly what you need, wherever on the Coast you call home.
What's the Difference Between a Standard Mothers Group and the Village Mothers' Group?
Most local mothers groups work like this: you're placed into a group of mums in your postcode, based on your baby's birth month, often through your local health service. It's a wonderful initiative and many lifelong friendships start there — but it's a bit of a lottery. You don't choose who's in the group, there's no real structure to the sessions, and there isn't always someone in the room with the professional knowledge to answer the questions that come up at 3am.
The Village Mothers' Group is built differently, by design:
A dedicated 2 hours, every week, for 6 weeks — not a casual catch-up, but real, protected time carved out just for you and your baby.
Genuine connection with like-minded mums in a small, intimate group (max 10), so you actually get to know each other — not just nod across a crowded hall.
Direct access to trusted experts from across the Central Coast's family health community — the kind of practitioners families usually have to book and pay for individually.
Consistent, expert facilitation every single week, led by either Kathryn (Doula, Mamma Nurture) or Harriet (Midwife, Child & Family Health Nurse and IBCLC Sleep Consultant) — alongside a different guest Village practitioner each session.
In short: it's the connection of a mothers group, with the guidance of a private consult, in a space that's been thoughtfully designed for exactly this stage of motherhood.
Six Weeks. Real Experts. Real Answers.
One of the biggest drawcards of this group is the chance to pick the brains of experienced professionals who specialise in supporting Central Coast families. Rather than guessing your way through feeding, sleep, baby massage or your own postpartum recovery, you'll have a different expert in the room each week, ready to answer your specific questions in real time.
Sessions are hosted by:
Kathryn, Doula at Mamma Nurture — bringing deep experience in postpartum and newborn support, and
Harriet, Midwife, Child & Family Health Nurse and IBCLC Sleep Consultant — offering trusted, evidence-based guidance on feeding, sleep and infant development.
Each week, they're joined by a different Village Collective practitioner, so over the six weeks you're exposed to a genuine breadth of expert knowledge — all under one roof, all in one series.
Who Is the Village Mothers' Group For?
This series is designed specifically for mums with babies aged 6 weeks to 6 months — that tender stretch where you're finding your feet, your body is still recovering, and the right support can make all the difference.
Whether you're feeling isolated, overwhelmed, sleep-deprived, or simply craving the company of other mums who get it, this group creates a space where you don't have to perform — you can simply show up as you are.
